• Franklin in 1982, showing off two bottles of Budvar Beer (the original Budweiser) that he has come to Brno, Czechoslovakia to acquire.

Thanks to Susie for taking the picture from 2005 and to Steve Holzner for taking the one from 1982. When I later applied for a US security clearance, the Feds contacted Steve for assurance that the trip to Czechoslovakia really was a beer run and not something more sinister.

At work at BBN in November 2005. We designed and built an attack-resistant publish/subcribe computer system for the US Air Force. DARPA tested our system by hiring professionals to attack it while we defend it:

• Partha Pal, Dick O'Brien, Matt Gheen and Paul Rubel watch for signs of attack;
• Paul Rubel and Lyle Sudin relax between tests;
• John Frank oversees the cyber-conflict.

Sightseeing before attending the DOA conference in Agia Napa, Cyprus, in November 2005:

• One late-Roman floor mosaic and another at Kourion;
